I normally do not approve of graffiti. Sure, some people can make it look neat, but it mucks up private property and natural features and just plain is inconsiderate.

However, on a recent walk by the Potomac River, I saw a bit of graffiti that caught my interest. There were a few uplifting ones scrawled on the jagged rocks along the river: "Smile at someone. It might make their day." and so forth. But the one that begged to be photographed was this.

Admittedly, someone scrawled it on a geologic feature in a natural area. Not cool. Yet something about the crumbling rock, the dead leaves, the plants working their way through the cracks, made the graffiti work in an artistic sense. Possibly even philosophically.

Putting this under regular photography because I only did minimal color and contrast tweaking in Corel Photo-Paint.

I love the sharp color of those leaves up above with the dark rocks. And I also agree with your take on this. Being from LA, I see shitloads of graffiti and the sight of this coherent stuff is refreshing. It actually has MEANING LAWL.
Thanks! I had to tweak the contrast and tone curve a bit to bring out the color of the leaves; my original photograph was more washed-out.

Yup! It was refreshing to see graffiti that had a message instead of spraypainted cusswords and signatures of graffiti artists. The one that read "Smile: it might make someone's day" made me smile. :P
Oh...wow. This is an art in itself. The actual rock and saying and...wow it all works together perfectly.

That's how I felt, too. Usually graffiti annoys me, but when I saw this it gave me pause and made me smile a bit.
LOL, I love your icon.

Thanks. :) It was one of those things that demanded a photograph.
Thanks! xD

Yes indeed it's a great find. :] Welcomes.

I don't approve of most graffiti because it's lame. Especially graffiti in forests. The hell? Anyway, exceptions include large-scale guerrilla graffiti (in the city because it's ugly anyway) and only if its for a purpose.

I like this though. It's very true.
